TIERRA DESCUBIERTA (2025)
Se extrajeron 150 Kg de gravilla (piedra de uso decorativo que impide el crecimiento de malezas) situada en los Jardines del Descubrimiento, para ser emplazada en un solar ubicado en el barrio de Vallecas. Los Jardines del Descubrimiento son el símbolo máximo de enaltecimiento al “descubrimiento de América” que se encuentra en Madrid y se localizan al inicio del barrio Salamanca; uno de los más acomodados del centro de la ciudad. Este espacio es un punto de encuentro para grupos fascistas, albergando la bandera más grande de España. Vallecas es uno de los barrios obreros de la ciudad, fuertemente vinculado a movimientos sociales, donde vive una gran cantidad de población migrante. El barrio contiene muchos solares (descampados/sitios eriazos) pertenecientes al ayuntamiento y privados. La obra plantea la descontextualización de las piedras y se reinvierten los posibles sentidos del término -descubrimiento-, basándose principalmente en la idea de “manifestar” y “hacer presente”, contraponiendo también los conceptos/nociones de centro, periferia, poder, clase e historia.
UNCOVERED LAND (2025)
150 kg of gravel (decorative stone used to prevent weed growth) were removed from the Jardines del Descubrimiento and placed on a vacant lot in the Vallecas neighborhood.
The Jardines del Descubrimiento are the ultimate symbol of glorification of the “discovery of America” in Madrid and are located at the beginning of the Salamanca neighborhood, one of the wealthiest areas in the city center. This space serves as a meeting point for fascist groups and hosts the largest Spanish flag.
Vallecas is a working-class neighborhood of the city, strongly linked to social movements, with a large migrant population. The neighborhood contains many vacant lots (empty plots/wastelands), both municipal and privately owned.
The work proposes the decontextualization of the stones and reinvents the possible meanings of the term “discovery,” based primarily on the idea of “making manifest” and “bringing into presence,” while also contrasting the concepts and notions of center, periphery, power, class, and history.
